Minority Farmer Groups Want to Help Fight COVID-19

By Lauren Berg (March 18, 2022, 10:02 p.m. EDT) — Two minority farmer associations asked a Texas federal judge on Friday to let them intervene in a fight between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and two classes of farmers whites who claim they have been excluded from COVID-19 relief funds allocated to minority farmers.

In a 15-page petition, the National Black Farmers Association and the Association of American Indian Farmers sought to intervene as defendants in the case, arguing the government’s ultimate proposal to simply rewrite part of the American Rescue Plan Act 2021 so that its benefits do not exclude that someone would defeat the purpose of the law.
